The former POW shared with me a biographical sketch of his journey to and through America between 1943 and 1946: from capture in Sicily to POW camps in Tunesia and Algeria, then across the Atlantic to Norfolk, Virginia. From there he went on to spend time in various camps in the states of Louisiana, Washington, Oregon, Virginia, and New York, before being returned to Germany in 1946.
